Letaya 2-Drawer Lateral File Cabinet Review: Wide-Format Tax Record Storage
4.3 / 5
Overall Rating
Letaya's 2-drawer lateral holds files side-by-side (not front-to-back) — more capacity per drawer than vertical cabinets, at ~$180 shipped.
Lateral vs. vertical: why it matters
Most home-office cabinets store files front-to-back (vertical filing). Lateral cabinets — wider than they are deep — store files side-to-side. The payoff: more visible files per drawer and easier scanning when you're looking for last year's 1099 without pulling every folder.
Letaya's 2-drawer lateral is 29.5" wide × 17.5" deep × 27" tall, which is the sweet spot for a printer stand that doubles as filing.
Build notes
- Cold-rolled steel cabinet, powder-coat finish
- Both drawers lock (single cam lock controls both) — 2 keys included
- Full ball-bearing slides, ~100 lb per drawer rated
- Side-load hanging rails — files hang side-to-side; drawer includes dividers to keep rows from collapsing
- Adjustable leveling feet
What fits
- Letter, Legal, F4, A4 file formats all work with the adjustable rails
- Each drawer holds ~80-100 hanging folders (vs. 40-50 in a vertical 2-drawer) — because lateral drawers are wider
- Top surface supports 75 lb — holds a small printer or scanner without sagging
Where it beats cheaper alternatives
- Steel vs. particle board — survives being moved; particle board cabinets blow out at screw points after 2-3 moves
- Both drawers lock — many cheap cabinets only lock the top drawer
- Drawer glides — the ball-bearing slides don't bind when fully loaded, which is where sub-$100 cabinets usually fail
Limits
- Assembly required — plan 30-45 minutes; hardware is all included but instructions are translated and lean
- Width — 29.5" means you need actual wall space; not an under-desk solution like the DEVAISE 3-drawer
- Color — only black at this writing; white runs through a different ASIN
The verdict
If you have the wall space, a 2-drawer lateral holds more than a 4-drawer vertical in the same floor footprint. Letaya's build quality and dual locks put it ahead of big-box alternatives at this price tier. A solid choice for 7+ years of tax record retention without dominating a room.
