When Are Tax Forms Due?
Most tax forms like W-2s and 1099s are required to be sent to you by January 31. Your federal tax return (Form 1040) is due April 15. If you need more time, you can file Form 4868 for an automatic six-month extension, but any taxes owed are still due by April 15 to avoid penalties and interest.
What If I'm Missing a Form?
If you haven't received an expected form by mid-February, contact the issuer directly. You can also check your IRS account online for wage and income transcripts, which show most forms reported to the IRS on your behalf. If you still cannot obtain the form, you can file using your own records and attach a statement explaining the missing document.
